Baseball improve to 2-0 after Bakersfield Tournament
BAKERSFIELD - The College of the Sequoias baseball team went 2-0 in the Bakersfield Tournament this past weekend.
Here is a quick breakdown of both victories:
COS vs. Barstow: COS had Alex Garcia pitch the season opener in Friday's 4-1 victory against Barstow. Garcia got the win, giving up one run on six hits, in five inning of work. Sagun Gainey shut the door, registering his first save of the season.
Gabe Corona, Tyler Morgan, Zac Hernandez, and Wyatt Tilley each had one RBI in the victory.
COS vs. Moorpark: It was a pitchers duel all the way until the fifth inning in Sequoias 5-1 win over Moorpark.
Both Isaiah Espinoza and Hernandez reached base in the top of the frame, with Emilio Navarro stepping to the plate. The sophomore outfielder doubled in the pair putting the Giants up 2-0.
Oscar Reyes would slap a single into the outfield, scoring Navarro. COS had a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the frame.
Moorpark would score one run on a Dean McMillan single, but that is all they would get.
Sequoias added two runs of insurance in the top of the ninth, giving Troy Stainbrook the ball to close it out. The big lefty did just that, striking out seven in four innings of work.
