COS sweep three-game homestand
The College of the Sequoias baseball team swept Cuesta in their three-game series by winning all three games on Friday.
Yes, you read that right.
The Giants came back in every single game against the Cougars in one day.
Game One: Thursday's extra inning game was forced to be finished on Friday to to darkness.
COS jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second inning, but Cuesta lowly came back in the 3rd, 6th, and 8th frames.
The Cougars would score on a wild pitch in the 10th, forcing the Giants to answer in the bottom half of the inning.
Sequoias did just that.
Sagun Gainey's single scored Rudy Vasquez from second.
After a silent 11th, Cuesta plated two runs in the 12th inning thanks to another wild pitch and a single.
The Giants would again answer as Gainey's fielder's choice ground ball scored Vasquez. Oscar Reyes doubled in Gainey in the next at-bat, tieing the game at 7-7.
The managers met after the inning was completed to postpone the game.
COS did not take long to win on Saturday, scoring in the bottom of the 13th. Emilio Navarro's single plated Grant Champlin for the 8-7 victory.
Gainey got his second win of the season in his two innings of relief.
Game two: The Giants would again come back from a deficit to win 5-4 in game two.
Cuesta jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a couple of COS errors in the first inning.
Sequoias would score one run in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th inning to tie the game at 3-3.
After a Cougars run in the 6th, Vasquez tied the game back up at 4-4, with his single scoring Reyes.
Tucker Mendonca's go-ahead double in the 8th plated Navaro for the 5-4 lead.
Troy Stainbrook shut the door in the 9th, for his third save of the season.
Game three: Sequoias took a 3-0 lead into the 8th inning, before Cuesta catcher Dante Peretti created panic at Giants Stadium.
Peretti's RBI single in the top of the 8th cut Cuesta's deficit to two.
Stainbrook came in to save the game in the 9th inning, but Peretti had other plans.
The catchers double plated two in the top of the inning to tie the game at 3-3.
Just like every game in the series, COS would claw out a victory.
Vasquez's walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th scored Zac Hernandez, giving the Giants a 4-3 win.
After blowing the save, Stainbrook received his third win of the season.
Up Next: Sequoias will travel to San Luis Obispo on Thursday to play Cuesta in a one game non-conference matchup. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
