Giants seal series win with a walk-off
After dropping the second game in Taft, College of the Sequoias battled back to take the series, winning 10-9 on Saturday.
The Giants jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third inning. Starter Troy Stainbrook was fine until the fifth inning.
The Cougars tagged the lefty for three runs. Taft would score six more runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.
Sequoias stayed close, but trailed 9-8 going into the bottom of the ninth.
Emilio Navarro's RBI single brought in Sagun Gainey for the tieing 9-9 run.
With the bases loaded, Andrew Perez was called in by manager Jody Allen to pinch hit. Perez got the job done and singled home Navarro.
Alex Garcia got the win pitching 1 ⅔ innings.
Up next for COS is a three-game series with Reedley. The first game is on Tuesday with first pitch set for 2 p.m. The Pirates (14-5) won 12 straight games to start the season, and sit in third place in the Central Valley Conference standings.
