The 20th-ranked College of the Sequoias Giants and the first-place Merced Blue Devils went 18 innings on Tuesday, with Merced coming out on top 10-7.
Play was suspended due to darkness on Tuesday and the game was forced to resume at Merced on Friday.
3/31: Game two of the series saw the Blue Devils rough up COS pitcher Sagun Gainey en route to a 13-3 victory.
In 3 ⅓ innings, Gainey was tagged for nine earned runs on eight hits.
The lone bright spot for COS came in the top of the second, when Rudy Vasquez hit a home run.
4/1: In the series finale on Saturday in Merced, the Giants could not avoid the sweep, losing 10-5.
Sequoias had the game tied at 3-3 going into the bottom of the sixth, but the Blue Devils scored seven unanswered runs in the next two frames.
With the three loses, COS moves into a four-way tie for second place in the Central Valley Conference standings with Fresno City, Reedley, and West Hills Coalinga, at 7-5.
Next up for the Giants is a three game set with last-place Porterville. Game one is set for 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Porterville. Game two will be in Visalia on Thursday at 2 p.m., and game three will shift back to Porterville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
