Bio

Coach Scott Laird has been an assistant coach for the Giants since 2013.  He is heavily involved in all aspects of the College of the Sequoias baseball program and is currently leading the team’s highly successful academic program. The 2019 baseball team had a record-breaking combined grade point average of 3.3.  Coach Laird is an intracule part of the recruiting team for the COS baseball program and is currently working as the outfield coach.

Laird graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 2007, where he excelled in football and baseball.  He helped the Pioneers win a football Valley Championship in 2006. After graduating from Mt. Whitney, Laird moved on to play baseball here at COS in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.  In 2008, he was a first team all-Central Valley Conference selection and was also voted on the Gold Glove team.  In 2009, Coach Laird hit 20 doubles, tying the COS record held by former MLB all-star Johnny Estrada.  Laird’s performance on the field led him to once again capture first-team all-Central Valley Conference honors as well as a second Gold Glove selection.  Laird was voted team captain and Giant of the Year in 2009.  After his two-year stint with the Giants, Laird went on to play for Fresno Pacific University in 2011 and 2012. Laird graduated from FPU with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Coach Laird and his wife Samantha reside in Visalia with their daughters Jade, Bailee, and Leighton.
