No. 6 Giants move to 3-0; face Sierra, Foothill next at Fresno City Classic
COS knocked off another ranked opponent while going 2-0 during the Hinson's Tire Pros Classic in San Luis Obispo.
The Giants, who were ranked No. 6 in the preseason state poll by the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association, downed host Cuesta 77-68 on Nov. 8 behind had 12 points and two rebounds from Amil Fields (Hayward), and 10 points, five rebounds and two assists from Tiveon Stroud (Selma). Both came off the bench for the Giants (3-0), who also saw Dewayne Holmes (Riverside) contribute eight points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals, Savion Johnson (Hanford) put up eight points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Elihu Cobb (Santa Maria) added eight points and seven rebounds. All 11 COS players who got into the game against Cuesta (1-2) scored.
COS' bench also played a pivotal role against Allan Hancock (2-1) as reserve Carlos Allen (Atlanta) scored a team-leading 15 points, while Tiyon Martin (Pasadena) added 13 points and Fields had 12.
The Giants also received 12 points and five rebounds from Cobb, and nine points and three rebounds from Savion Johnson.
Stroud and Ayo Aderoboye (Lagos, Nigeria), who had a combined nine points, nine rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks, were named to the All-Tournament team.
COS returns to action at the Fresno City Classic with games at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 against No. 15 Sierra (2-0) and 3 p.m. Nov. 17 against Foothill (3-1).
The Giants next play at home on Nov. 26 against Modesto (2-1). Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. from Porter Field House.
