COS Shuts Out Reedley in Third Straight Conference Victory

Visalia, CA – The No. 20 College of the Sequoias softball team (15-6, 3-1 CVC) continued its strong start in Central Valley Conference play, defeating Reedley College (7-13, 2-2 CVC) 4-0 on Thursday behind a complete-game shutout performance from Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS).
Chojnacki Tosses a Shutout
Chojnacki was nearly untouchable, throwing a complete-game shutout while allowing just five hits and striking out five. She faced 26 batters, efficiently working through the Reedley lineup.
The Giants got on the board in the second inning when Madison Lujan (Hanford HS) singled to bring home Nayzeth Gonzalez (Hanford HS), followed by a sacrifice fly from Madisyn Benedict (Hanford HS) to score Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS).
COS added to its lead in the fourth when Elaine Duran (Tulare Western HS) delivered an RBI single, scoring Benedict. In the fifth, Benedict struck again with an RBI single, plating Lujan to extend the lead to 4-0.
"Madisyn and Elaine had great performances at the plate today," Janelli said. "We found ways to score runs, and that's what we need to do in these tight games."

College of the Sequoias will host a trio of games on Saturday, March 8, beginning with West Valley at 10:00 AM, followed by West Valley vs. College of the Canyons at 12:00 PM. The day will conclude with the Giants taking on College of the Canyons at 2:00 PM.
