College of the Sequoias Dives Strong at the Delta Diving Invite

STOCKTON, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias diving team delivered a strong performance at the Delta Diving Invitational on February 21, 2025, at the June Fergusson Pool. Competing against top divers in the region, COS secured multiple top finishes, including a runner-up finish from Reannon Herrera (Redwood HS) in the women's 1-meter event and an event victory from Guy Woodard (Golden West HS) in the men's 1-meter competition. 

Head Coach Allyson Briano was pleased with her team's showing, stating, "This was a great test for our divers, and they stepped up to the challenge. We had some really strong performances, and I'm excited to see how they build off of this going forward." 

Herrera Leads COS Women with Strong Diving Performances

The 1-meter diving event was a strong one for the COS women, with Reannon Herrera (Redwood HS) earning second place with a score of 173.10. She was followed by Lauren Pelayo (El Diamante HS), who finished in the top-10 with 120.45 points, securing team points for the Giants. 

In the 3-meter diving event, Herrera continued her impressive day, finishing fourth with a score of 153.20, narrowly missing a podium finish. Pelayo also contributed with a ninth-place finish, scoring 119.30. 

"Reannon and Lauren both showed a lot of improvement today," said Coach Briano. "Reannon had a really strong 1-meter event, and she carried that momentum into the 3-meter. Lauren is continuing to develop, and I'm excited to see her progress." 

Woodward Claims Victory as COS Men has Success  

The COS men dominated the 1-meter diving competition, with Guy Woodard (Golden West HS) taking first place with a score of 174.80. Liam Henshaw (Golden West HS) followed in third place with 159.30, giving the Giants two top-three finishes. Ethan Solimon (Redwood HS) rounded out the COS scoring in fifth place. 

In the 3-meter diving event, Henshaw and Woodard battled for the top spots, finishing second and third with scores of 188.65 and 187.10, respectively. Solimon placed fourth with a score of 132.60, adding to COS's impressive showing. 

Coach Briano praised the men's performances, saying, "Guy, Liam, and Ethan all had really strong showings today. They executed their dives well and kept their focus throughout the competition." 

Upcoming Meet

The Giants will return to competition this Friday, February 28, as they host the COS Invitational at the COS Aquatics Center. The meet, which begins at 10:00 a.m., will feature Shasta College, Clovis Community College, and Fresno City College, bringing together some of the top divers and swimmers in the region. 

"It's always exciting to compete at home," said Head Coach Allyson Briano. "This will be a great opportunity for our team to continue improving and compete in a familiar environment. We're looking forward to seeing how our athletes perform against strong competition."
