LEMOORE - COS women's basketball received their first loss of the season as they finished 2-1 in the Central Valley Conference Tournament this past weekend.
Head coach Ray Alvarado believed his team didn't play up to the standard they usually do.
"To play in another championship game will only help us later on," Alvarado said. "To not be completely prepared to compete for a championship costed us. We will continue to learn."
The Giants (8-1) blew out Yuba 65-37 in their first game on Friday.
COS held Yuba to five points in the first quarter and nine in the fourth.
Sophomore guard Myasia Gray led the Giants with 13 points off the bench.
Sophomore guard Imari Russell had a great night as well. She finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds in the win.
On Saturday, COS would once again score big in their 86-57 victory over Cuesta.
The Giants had four players score in double digits.
Sophomore Forward Dojahnae Senegal finished with a team high 16 points and added 7 rebounds.
Freshman guard Zharia McCollum recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Freshman guards Cassidy Rodriguez had 12 points and Darci Finnigan had 11 points.
COS would make it to their third straight championship game on Sunday, but lost 69-65 to Orange Coast.
The Giants had a 42-38 lead at halftime. Orange Coast would erase the four point deficit with a 19 point third quarter.
Both Idalis Rubalcava and Isabella Jimenez finished with 15 points in the loss.
Rubalcava and Alyssa Gonzales made the CVC All-Tournament team for their performances.
COS will compete and host the 40th annual Gilcrest Tournament on Dec. 1 through Dec. 4. The tournament is one of the few left in the state to have a 16-team bracket. The Giants will play Cerritos on Dec. 1, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
