Giants' women open home doubleheader Saturday vs. Reedley
College of the Sequoias' women's basketball team will be out to bounce back from consecutive Central Valley Conference losses when it hosts Reedley on Jan. 13.
The Giants, who have won or shared the past three CVC titles, will try and get back into the conference race against the Tigers in a game scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m. from Porter Field House. Admission is $5.
COS (12-7, 1-2) is presently looking up at three teams in the conference standings, first-place Merced (3-0), Fresno City (2-0), West Hills-Lemoore (2-1) and Reedley (1-1).
The Tigers enter 6-12 overall. They have been led by Sam Mendoza (17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game) and Tristan Randle (17 points, six rebounds).
Reedley is coming of a 92-47 home win over Taft.
COS, which is ranked No. 10 in Northern California in the latest California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll, dropped its last game 70-51 at Merced on Jan. 15.
The Giants fell behind 17-12 through the first quarter and never recovered. They were down 37-25 by halftime.
Alaysia Reed (Las Vegas) had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for COS.
McKenna Hsiung (Bakersfield) had nine points and four rebounds, off the bench, while Elyssa Brumfield (Golden Valley-Bakersfield) contributed eight points and five rebounds, and Serena Ybarra (Coalinga) added seven points and 10 rebounds.
After hosting Reedley, COS has a bye on Jan. 22 before returning to action Jan. 25 at Porterville.
