Giants Earn 6-3 Road Win Over College of the Canyons 

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias women's tennis team secured a hard-fought 6-3 victory over College of the Canyons on Friday, January 31. Strong doubles play set the tone early, and key singles wins sealed the road win for the Giants. 

The Giants opened strong in doubles, led by the pairing of Hannah Salazar (Tulare Western HS) and Sadie Avila (Hanford HS), who continued their undefeated season with an 8-3 win. Their chemistry proved vital as they controlled play throughout. At doubles, Summer Herrera (Mt Whitney HS) and Mia Orosco (Dinuba HS) executed their strategy to perfection, with Herrera's baseline consistency setting up Orosco at the net for an 8-5 victory. 

Herrera carried her momentum into singles, using her forehand slice to keep her opponent off balance in a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win. Jaden Godoy (Dinuba HS) staged an impressive comeback after trailing 1-4 in the first set, rallying for a 7-5 win before dominating the second set 6-0. 

The Giants continued their strong singles play. Salazar controlled the pace in a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5, while Avila delivered a dominant performance at No. 6, winning 6-1, 6-0 to clinch the match. 

Head coach Martin Herrera praised the team's chemistry, stating, "Our players showed resilience and composure today. We set the tone in doubles, and I was proud of how we carried that momentum into singles. Jayden's comeback was huge for us, and Summer really dictated play. It was a complete team effort."

Upcoming Mathces 

Looking ahead, the Giants will aim to build on their strong start as they prepare for their next match. Their match on Wednesday against Imperial Valley has been canceled due to inclement weather. They will return to action this Friday and Saturday, February 7-8 when they travel to the Modesto Junior College Tournament.
