Women's finish 2nd and Men's finish 4th at the Oxnard Invite
The College of the Sequoias cross country teams delivered strong performances at the 2024 Oxnard College Cross Country Invitational on September 6, 2024. The women's team secured a second-place finish, while the men's team placed fourth, showcasing the Giants' runners early in the season.
Sophomore Dana Ruiz (Tulare Union HS) led the way for the Collegeo of the Sequoias' women, placing second overall in the 5K with a time of 19:36.1. The team's combined effort resulted in a total time of 1:45:19 and an average of 21:03, earning them second place. Ruiz's performance was supported by key finishes from Elizabeth Urquilla (Farmersville HS), who placed 22nd with a time of 20:53.9, Diana Ruiz (Tulare Union HS), who placed 26th with a time of 21:19.1, and Xitlallic Fieros (El Diamante HS), who placed 27th with a time of 21:30.2.
On the men's side, Julian Valdivia (Tulare Western HS) shone for the Giants, finishing 10th in the 4-mile race with a time of 21:25.6. The men ended the meet in fourth place with a team score of 147 points, reflecting a solid start to their campaign. Valdivia's performance was supported by Levi Wagner (Mt Whitney HS), who placed in the top-50 with a time of 23:02.9, and Cristiano Cabera (Redwood HS), who also placed in the top-50 with a time of 23:06.2
Next up, the Giants will compete at the Modesto Invitational next Friday, September 27, where they will look to build on their early-season success.
