Track and Field Weekend Review
Sequoias' Track and Field competed in two meets this past weekend. The first was The Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic in Los Angeles.
The meet featured universities and community colleges from all over the nation.
In the 1500m run Adam Gonzalez placed fourth and 32rd overall in heat four at 4:04.99.
In heat six, freshman Gary Austin finished at 4:12:22 which was good for third and 63rd. Teammate Isaac Leal finished just behind at 4:14:89 for fifth and 73rd.
COS had three runners place in the 5000m run. Heat six saw Abran Ayon run a 16:13.93 for 190th overall. The Giants then placed back-to-back as Tyler Dalton, 16:31.97, and Arturo Ochoa, 16.33.94, finished 203rd and 204th overall.
Sequoias' second meet was in Modesto for The Jack Albiani Invitational.
The Giants continued their dominance in the 400m Dash as they placed first through fourth.
Ohdel James won at 47.40, followed by Isaiah Johnson (48.01), Theon Lewis (48.76), and Christian Lewis (50.16).
The sophomores placed first once again in the 4x100m relay as they defeating Monterey Peninsula with a time of 42.15.
In the longest run of the evening at 5000m, freshman Manuel Rojas finished first at 17:31.94 with teammate Riley Hanks finishing just behind in second at 17:34.75.
The 400m Hurdles saw Sophomore Chris Green come in first with a time of 55.80.
COS had strong showings in the field events as Javari Fairclough placed first overall in the High Jump with a length of 1.92m.
The Triple Jump saw Bryce Huggins finish at the top spot once again with a distance of 13.80m.
In the Discus Throw Hunter Armon came in fourth place with a heave of 40.66m.
The Giants were just edged out in the Shot Put by Modesto's Daniel Roberts (15.86m). Shaquill Singuineau finished second (14.57m), and Bronson Espinoza finished third (13.62m).
Sequoias' next meet is a historic one. The Giants will compete in Visalia for the first time in six years as COS will host the inaugural Sequoias Relays March 19 at the Giant Chevrolet Mineral King Bowl. The meet is scheduled to start at 10am.
