Deajah Stevens Is Headed to Rio
Former COS track and field standout, and current Oregon Duck Deajah Stevens has made the United States Olympic team by finishing second in the women's 200m at the United State Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon.
Stevens was the individual state champion for COS in 2015 in the women's 200m and 400m. This past season at the University of Oregon Deajah finished second in the NCAA championships in the 200m but seems to keep getting faster each time she races. "Deajah has a great attitude, is highly competitive, and is extremely coachable" said COS head track and field coach Curtis Allen. "We are so proud of her and an honor like this couldnt happen to a better person."
Stevens finished just .05 seconds behind Tori Bowie, a professional athlete, for the top finish at the trials. Clovis native Jenna Prandini finished third in the race to round out the women's 200m USA team as she edged out 2012 Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix. Felix is someone Deajah has admired for sometime saying "she is someone I have looked up to for a very long time" and that "she is one of the best 200m runners ever and one of my goals was to be able to compete with her."
Not only did Deajah compete with her, she was able to pull away from the pack, along with Bowie, to secure a spot on the USA Olympic Team which will compete next month in Rio.
