COS Football Home Opener This Saturday at 7pm
COS Football Opens Up at Home Saturday versus Chabot:
COS is coming off of a road loss at Feather River College last week while Chabot College is coming into the game 1-0 after defeating Shasta College at home. "We didn't play the way we wanted to last week" said COS Coach Joe D'Agostino, "but our guys are hungry and we are looking for a better performance this week against Chabot."
COS managed to score just six points last week in the loss to Feather River. "We were a little snake bit last week. We lost four fumbles at the end of good drives down the field. Hanging on to the ball and finishing drives was the emphasis for our week. Chabot is a really good team and they are well coached. We need to be ready to play and we will" said D'Agostino.
Bright spots for the Giants last week was rushing combination of Andrew Azua (Sanger) and Devonte Green (Hammond) combined for 154 yards on the ground out of the 244 yards COS produced on the ground. Ryan Johnson, a Hanford High graduate who led them to a state title two years ago, and transferred back from San Jose State, is the Giants starting quarterback and passed for 111 yards last week. "Ryan will continue to get better each week. He is highly talented and has had a good week of practice. It was great for Ryan to break a little rust off last week given he hasn't played in two years. We know he will have a great season" said D'Agostino.
COS will have to slow down the run game of Chabot who compiled 195 yards on 46 attempts last week including their quarterback, Chayce Akaya, who rushed for 81 yards on his own. "He's quick and fast. If you let him get outside the tackles he has a chance to make big plays. We need to keep our discipline and be aware of where he is on the field."
Chabot comes into the game ranked #11 in Northern California while the Giants are unranked. COS owns a 15-13 all time record against Chabot.
Kick off is slated for this Saturday at 7pm at the Giant Chevrolet Mineral King Stadium.
