COS Track and Field Shines at West Coast Relays
The COS Track and Field team once again demonstrated their abilities on the track and in the field events as they participated in the highly competitive West Coast Relays, hosted by Fresno State University at Buchannan High School from March 22 to 23. The meet proved to be a platform for numerous personal bests (PRs) and standout performances from both the men's and women's teams.
Men's:
Joseph Mendoza (Mt Whitney HS) had a remarkable personal-record (PR) in the 200m, clocking in at an impressive 23.47 seconds. Adding to the sprinting showcase, Ryan Yockey (Exeter HS) showcased his form with a season-best time of 23.99 seconds in the same event. The 400m witnessed Malik Bolton (Bakersfield HS) seizing second place and setting a new personal record with a swift 49.09 seconds.
In the hurdles events, Rome Johnson (Corcoran HS) delivered a stellar performance, notching a PR and securing a top-10 finish in the 110m hurdles (15.99). Johnson, alongside Justin Godinez (El Diamante HS), exhibited their prowess in the 400m hurdles, both achieving personal bests and securing spots in the top 10 with times of 1:00.07 and 1:00.36, respectively. The relay team comprising Dewayne Coleman (Exeter HS), Malik Bolton, AJ Dixson (Vancouver, WA), and Mekhi Sanchez (Lemoore HS) showcased exceptional teamwork, clinching a top-5 finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.87 seconds.
The field events saw COS athletes shine as well, with Chase Huguenard (Righetti HS) and Christian Alves (Selma HS) securing top-10 finishes in the 16 lb shotput at 12.44m and 12.16m, respectively. Elijah Lucas (Lemoore HS) displayed his prowess in pole vault, securing a commendable third place with a height of 3.98m. Mekhi Sanchez soared in long jump, setting a new PR with an impressive 7.26m leap. Additionally, in triple jump, AJ Dixson, Mekhi Sanchez, and Kyran DeHoward (El Diamante HS) exhibited their skill, each securing top-10 finishes with distances of 13.38m, 12.70m, and 12.42m, respectively.
Women's:
The women's team showcased their speed and agility, with Reanna Soto (El Diamante HS) claiming a top-10 finish and a personal record in the 100m, crossing the line in 12.41 seconds. Ivy Miller (Exeter HS) showed her versatility, securing top-10 finishes in the 100m and 400m hurdles with times of 16.18 seconds and 1:05.39, respectively. Stella Schweizer (Lemoore HS) joined the top-10 in the 400m hurdles, clocking in at 1:16.20.
The 4x100m relay team comprising Reanna Soto, Ivy Miller, Chloe Benham (Dinuba HS), and Makayla Jones (Corcoran HS) powered through the track by securing a top-5 finish in 49.00 seconds.
In the field events, Itzel Barrios (Porterville HS) showcased her talent by finishing in the top-10 and by getting a PR in discus with a throw of 34.94m. Kassidy Pace (Redwood HS) impressed in the hammer throw, achieving a personal best of 37.25m.
