Bio
Brent Davis became the 10th Director of Athletics in the history of College of the Sequoias on July 1, 2013. In his role, Davis leads one of the most successful athletic programs in the California Community College system, overseeing 18 varsity sports, nearly 600 student-athletes, and more than 70 coaches, faculty, and staff members. In addition to his athletic leadership responsibilities, Davis also serves as an Academic Dean at COS, providing oversight for the Physical Education, Kinesiology, Dance, Public Health, Recreation, and Sports Medicine departments.
Under Davis’ leadership, the COS athletic department has experienced significant growth, doubling in size from approximately 300 student-athletes in 2013 to nearly 600 today. Academic excellence has remained a cornerstone of the program’s success. Since the 2018 academic year, COS student-athletes have consistently posted a department-wide grade point average of 3.00 or higher. The 2022–2023 academic year marked a banner season for the Giants, as every COS sport qualified for postseason competition while the department earned an overall GPA of 3.11. During the 2024–2025 academic year, COS student-athletes achieved a 3.10 GPA, with 131 earning All-Conference honors or individual conference championships. Additionally, 11 student-athletes were named Conference Athletes of the Year, 13 earned All-State recognition, COS teams captured seven conference championships, and five coaches were honored as Coach of the Year by their peers.
Davis has played an influential role in intercollegiate athletics leadership across the state of California. He served on the Executive Board of the California Community College Athletic Directors Association from 2019 to 2024, including a term as president during the 2021–2022 academic year. He has also been a member of the 3C2A State Management Council since 2019 and served as Management Council Chair from 2023 to 2025. In addition, Davis has contributed to numerous statewide committees, including the Competition Committee, Finance Committee, Professional Development Committee, Management Council Bylaw 2 Committee, and the Constitution Committee. At COS, he currently serves on six institutional councils and committees.
A former COS men’s basketball student-athlete, Davis returned to his alma mater to assume the athletic director position following nearly two decades of coaching and leadership experience in higher education. Prior to returning to Visalia, he served as a men’s basketball coach at San José State University. His coaching and teaching background also includes stops at Bakersfield College, San Diego Mesa College, and Redwood High School. Throughout his career, Davis has remained deeply committed to mentoring student-athletes and helping young people achieve their academic, athletic, and personal goals.
Born in Tulare, California, Davis was raised in Visalia, where he attended Redwood High School. After beginning his collegiate journey at College of the Sequoias, he earned his bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University and later completed his master’s degree at Azusa Pacific University.
