COS starting tailback Jeremiah Johnson took the opening play from scrimmage for a 65 yard rushing touchdown and the Giants never looked back from there. COS defeated Feather River College 53-21 on Saturday afternoon. COS' all-time record versus Feather River now moves to 4-1 with the Giants only loss to Feather River coming last year in Quincy.
COS outgained Feather River in total offensive yards 594 to 324 with 350 of those yards coming on the ground. "Yes, we need to be able to run the ball if we expect to win football games. It was nice to see our offensive line open up some holes to give our running backs some space to go" said COS head football coach Irv Pankey.
COS had two 100 yard plus rushers on the day in Jeremiah Johnson and Devon Calhoun who rushed for 130 and 110 yards respectively.
On the other side of the ball, the COS defense did a great job in the second half and only gave up one first down to Feather River in the third quarter. "We made a few adjustments at half time and our defense did a nice job in that third quarter which allowed us to separate from Feather River. I was proud of the effort our defense put in today" said Pankey.
COS now goes on the road next week to play College of the Siskiyous. "They're a very good team. We have our work cut out for us and will have to play well to beat a team of their caliber. We are looking forward to the trip."
