Bio
Annie Ward was hired onto the College of the Sequoias women’s basketball staff in 2024. She brings with her a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. Joining Head Coach Tyler Newton, Ward comes to Visalia after four successful seasons at Butte College, where she played an instrumental role in shaping one of the most dominant programs in the state. During her time at Butte, the Roadrunners achieved an impressive 81-13 overall record (.862), captured four consecutive Golden Valley Conference (GVC) championships, and made three straight Elite 8 appearances. Her coaching contributions helped guide the team to the 2024 Final Four, capping off a remarkable 30-2 season, while in 2023, the team finished as State Runner-Up after a huge Final Four victory.
Ward is not only known for her success on the court but also for her dedication to developing players beyond the junior college level. Every player she has mentored during her coaching career has gone on to receive offers to play at a four-year university, which is a huge testament to her commitment to her student-athletes' growth and future.
Before her time at Butte College, Ward coached at Pleasant Valley High School, where she helped lead the Vikings to a strong 22-7 season. Ward was a standout player at Campolindo High School, earning All-Diablo Valley Athletic League honors multiple times and achieving a career-high 31 points in a single game, including nine three-pointers. Her sharpshooting carried her to Chico State University on an athletic scholarship, where she helped lead the Wildcats to a CCAA Championship and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Known for her shooting touch, Ward shot an impressive 38% from three-point range and 95% from the free-throw line during her collegiate career.
Beyond her playing and coaching career, Ward has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to education. She graduated from Chico State in 2015 with a Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education, along with a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. She began her professional career as a Special Education teacher, where her passion for assisting others has flourished.
