Giants Move Into Second Place:
The COS volleyball team is now tied for second place after their win over Taft College Friday night. The Giants handed Taft only their second loss of the conference season. COS now improves to 6-2 in league.
The offensive threat of the Giants was enough to walk away with another three-set win (25-18, 25-22, 25-15). Reina Sykes (Golden Valley) was the driving force behind the Giant's offense with 33 assists. Idalis Rubalcava (Sierra Pacific) and KiAnna Cunningham (Woodlake) both had double digit kills on the night. Rubalcava totaled 14 and Cunningham totaled 11. Brittany Roush (El Diamante) was solid defensively for the Giants and added 15 digs to the win. Head Coach Kim Rix said, "I was impressed with the way Reina (Sykes) ran the offense. Both of our captains (Sykes and Cunningham) lead our team well tonight and it showed. This is the outcome we were wanting and it puts us in a good position. We knew this was a huge game for us going in and the girls stepped up to the challenge."
The Giants will travel to play Fresno City, the first place team in league, next Wednesday night, October 28th at 6pm.
