COS Wins Conference Title in both Men's and Women's Track and Field
The COS women's track and field team pulled off the upset at the Central Valley Conference track and field finals this past weekend at Sanger High School. The COS women's team was predicted to finish in third place going into the meet but the performances of Cheilin Zapata (El Diamante), Elizabeth Sartuche (Tulare Union), and Marrisha Jacobs (Sierra Pacific) led COS to the conference title. "We asked those girls to run multiple events and they came through for us," said COS head track and field coach Kenny Jackson. "Cheilin and Elizabeth ran in four events each and Marrisha competed in seven events. They were tired at the end of the day but they represented COS well and came through for us in a major way." The COS women's team scored 191 points and Yuba College came in second with 178.
On the men's side COS ran away from the competition. COS finished the day with 303 points and Yuba College finished the day with 162. "It was a good performance from our guys," said Jackson. We our peaking at the right time."
COS now competes this upcoming weekend in the Nor Cal Championships in Sacramento.
