
COS Softball's Magical Season Comes to a Close
The COS Giants softball team magical season came to a close in the CCCAA super regionals on Friday, May 11th, and Saturday, May 12th against Sierra College in Rocklin. Friday's game featured a game that was called short as Sierra College toppled the Giants 9-1. Giants pitcher Arianna Guzman was tagged for 9 runs on 14 hits in only 5 innings of work. The Giants only run of the game came from a home run off the bat of Breanne Tabarez. Sierra College had a big offensive day as they had three players who had 3 hits, including McKenna Anderson who drove in a team high 4 runs, while also stealing 3 bases. They were backed on the mound by Amaryssa Medina who pitched a strong 5 innings, giving up the 1 homer and striking out 8.
The next game on Saturday, May 12th featured a stronger game by Giants pitcher Arianna Guzman as she only gave up 2 runs in her complete game effort. The Giants offense was not able to provide the run support needed, as they only scored 1 run on just 2 hits. Sierra's starting pitcher Amaryssa Medina pitched the entire game as well, and was backed by Daniella Toschi, who was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a run driven in, and a run scored. The Giants fell the Sierra College again by a final score of 2-1. This loss ended the Giants playoff run and their season as well.
The 2018 season marked the first time the Giants have won the Central Valley Conference title since 2010.
First team all CVC honorees included Jenna Reyes, Samantha Martinez, Ana Hayes, and Arianna Guzman.
Second team and honorable mention honorees include Tahmia Beavers, Maddy Wedel, Breanna Tebarez, Morghen Bowen, and Liz Valdez.
Receiving all Northern California honors were Samantha Martinez and Ana Hayes.
Receiving first team All-State honors this year was Ana Hayes.
