Kenny Jackson Named Head Track and Field Coach
Kenny Jackson has been named the interim head coach for the 2018 track and field season. Kenny Jackson is no stranger to College of the Sequoias after serving as assistant track and field coach and assistant football coach from (2007-2009). After leaving College of the Sequoias Kenny Jackson became an assistant football coach at New Mexico Highlands as well as Nebraska Kearny before coming back to College of the Sequoias in 2016 as the Student-Athlete Success Coordinator.
"Coach Jackson has done such a wonderful job as our Student-Athlete Success Coordinator that it was an easy choice for us to turn to him to run our track and field program on an interim basis. He is organized, energetic, and young people naturally gravitate towards him" said COS Athletic Director Brent Davis.
During his prior stint at COS, Jackson assisted then head football and track and field head coach Curtis Allen, who left COS to take an assistant track and field coaching position this past fall. "I was able to learn different training programs and how to build speed in athletes so they can peak and run their fastest at the right time, "said Jackson. "We are running a similar training program that helped COS win the state championship in track and field in 2017."
Jackson, originally from Fort Myers, Florida first came to California in 2002 to play football and run track and field at Bakersfield College where he was a standout. After leaving Bakersfield College Jackson accepted a scholarship to play football at the University of Central Florida before embarking on a coaching career.
COS will open up the 2018 track and field season at Bakersfield College on February 9th.
