Britt Shines as COS Track and Field Wraps Up Stellar Season
The COS men's track and field program had an impressive fourth place finish at the state meet last weekend in San Mateo. Jamal Britt highlighted his career by winning three individual titles including the 400 hurdles, the 110 hurdles, and the long jump.
"Jamal shined more so than anyone at the meet but I want to make sure to state that this was a total team effort," said COS Head Track and Field Coach Kenny Jackson. COS had 10 individuals score points in the meet including Ian Kelly who finished fourth in the long jump. Kelly, from Golden West High School, came into the meet ranked 12th in the state. "We had a feeling he was going to have a great day. He has looked phenomenal in practice," said Jackson.
Nathan Friginette placed seventh in the men's 200m and sixth in the 400. Ismael Ramirez placed 9th in the 1500 while Oscar Perez finished sixth in the 10k.
Another bright spot for the Giants this season is the emergence of the throwing program lead by former Redwood High School Head Coach Cole Sprauge. Berry Randle (McFarland) placed third overall in the discus and fifth in the hammer. Cameron Haynes (Tulare Western) also placed for COS finishing 11th in the shot put. Both Randle and Haynes are freshmen for COS.
On the women's side for COS Taylor Nelson (Redwood) was the only freshmen in the field in the women's long jump and finished ninth by jumping 5.36m. Lidia Briseno capped off her stellar career at COS by finishing twelfth in the women's 5000. "I couldn't be more proud of our team this year. We accomplished a lot and this season gives us something to build on. I look forward to moving our sophomores on and improving every freshmen on our team this year so they can be in the same position to move on like our current sophomores."
