College of the Sequoias Opens Season with Strong Showing at CVC Preview 

VISALIA, Calif. – College of the Sequoias Track & Field officially opened its season on Friday with the Central Valley Conference (CVC) Preview, co-hosted with Fresno City College. This marked the first home meet on Sequoias' newly renovated track, and the Giants delivered standout performances across multiple events. While track events took place in Visalia, the throwing events were hosted at Fresno City College. 

Women's Results 

COS women had strong performances on the track and in the field. Lilianna Ramirez-Romero (Chowchilla HS) set the tone with a 12.72-second victory in the 100 meters. She later contributed to the winning 4x100-meter relay team (48.68) along with Makayla Jones (Corcoran HS), Ashlyn Reed (Tulare Western HS), and Ejaiya Burton (Tulare Western HS). Ramirez-Romero also contributed with a second place finish in 400m hurdles (1:06.95)

In the hurdles, Chloe Benham (Dinuba HS) finished fourth in the 100m hurdles (14.17) to round out a strong showing. 

The distance events saw Dana Ruiz (Tulare Union HS) claim the 800m title (2:31.29), while Jizelle Loza (Redwood HS) won the 5000m (22:34.19). 

The field events belonged to Kassidy Pace (Redwood HS), who delivered in multiple events to claim Female Field MVP honors with 26 total points. She won the hammer throw (39.25m/128-09), finished 2nd in shot put (8.95m), and 2nd in discus (31.84m). Liset Castanon (Golden West HS) won in discus (32.02m). 

In the jumps, Ashlyn Reed (Tulare Western HS) took the triple jump title (11.17m/36-07.75) and also won the long jump (5.21m/17-01.25), helping her earn Female Track MVP honors with 22.5 total points. 

Men's Results 

The Giants men's squad put together strong performances on both the track and in the field. Mekhi Sanchez (Lemoore HS) was outstanding, taking victories in the 100 meters (11.23) and long jump (6.74m/22-01.50), while also contributing to the winning 4x100m relay (42.06) with Chase Dexter (Las Vegas), Treshawn Rimmer, and Tevin Howerton. Sanchez' efforts earned him Male Track MVP honors with 27.5 total points. 

In the 200 meters, Rome Johnson (Corcoran HS) earned a win with a time of 22.75, followed by Treshawn Rimmer (Las Vegas) – 22.95. Tevin Howerton (Las Vegas) also impressed in the 400m, winning in 49.35. 

The 110m hurdles saw Michael Johnson III (Bullard HS) secure first with a time of 16.24, while Richard Crakes (Las Vegas) won the 400m hurdles (57.39). 

The distance races saw Julian Valdivia (Tulare Western HS) take the 800m title (1:59.34), leading a 1-2-3 finish for Sequoias. 

In the field, Jesus Herrera (Tulare Western HS) dominated the triple jump (13.48m/44-02.75) while also securing 2nd in long jump (6.58m) and 3rd in high jump (1.78m). With 24 total points, he was named Male Field MVP. 

In the throws, Christian Alves (Selma HS) won the hammer throw (36.93m, 121-02, 10 pts) and placed second in the discus (37.89m, 124-03, 8 pts) to contribute valuable team points.
