College of the Sequoias Women's Soccer Rallies Past Reedley with Second-Half Surge, Wins 3-1
VISALIA, Calif. – College of the Sequoias women's soccer team continued their strong form with an impressive 3-1 comeback victory over Reedley College on Tuesday, November 5, at Sequoias Stadium. The Giants rallied with three second-half goals after Reedley's early second half goal, improving their Central Valley Conference record to 6-3-2 (8-5-3 overall).
The match started with both teams testing each other defensively, leading to a scoreless first half. However, Reedley managed to break through shortly after halftime, with Lizbeth Velazquez scoring in the 48th minute off an assist from Jennifer Martinez to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
COS quickly responded, leveling the score just four minutes later. In the 53rd minute, Jocelyn Arellano (Redwood HS) connected with a cross from Jimena Rivera (Golden West HS) and buried the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-1. With momentum shifting in their favor, the Giants continued their offensive push, and it paid off in the 58th minute when Lynea Rivera (El Diamante HS), assisted by Morgan Escobar (Tulare Western HS), struck to put Sequoias ahead 2-1.
The Giants didn't let up, and in the 66th minute, America Lopez (Exeter HS) capitalized by adding an unassisted goal, sealing the victory at 3-1. "Our team showed incredible resilience today," said head coach Brooklyn Morris. "To go down a goal and then respond the way we did speaks volumes about their character and determination."
COS goalkeeper Haylie Brasil (Manteca HS) had another solid outing, making several key saves to keep Reedley at bay. The Giants' defense was disciplined, managing to withstand Reedley's offensive attempts while their own attacking play proved decisive.
