Two COS Volleyball Players Commit to Four Year Schools
College of the Sequoias announces the commitments of two former volleyball standouts, Daniela Gonzalez (Delano HS) and Yajaira Gahagan (Tulare Union HS), to continue their athletic and academic journeys at four-year institutions. These student-athletes have left their imprint on the COS volleyball program through their talent and dedication.
Daniela Gonzalez, a 6'0" Outside Hitter, has recently committed to play at Saint Martin's University in Lacey, Washington for the upcoming season. Throughout her tenure at COS, Gonzalez garnered two All-Central Valley Conference (CVC) selections and accumulated over 500 kills with an average of 2.61 kills per set. Head Coach Kim Rix praised Gonzalez's continuous improvement, stating, "Dani just kept getting better during her time here. She was coachable and had a good offseason in between her first and second year. I am just so happy and proud of her." COS Athletic Director Brent Davis echoed this sentiment, "Coach Rix does a great job getting our girls recruited from four-year schools. Daniela had a great two years here, and you put those two elements together and we're not surprised that Daniela received this offer. We are thrilled for her."
Yajaira Gahagan, a 5'10" Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter, has committed to continue her athletic and academic career at Fresno Pacific University next season. This will allow her to rejoin former COS Giant and teammate, Mia Gilcrest. Gahagan's standout performances during the 2022-23 year, includes over 200 kills and 100 digs, which earned her a 2022 All-CVC First Team selection. One of her memorable highlights came in a game against Solano College, where she delivered an impressive game with 14 kills and 19 digs. Coach Rix had nothing but praise for Gahagan stating "Yajaira has a phenomenal story. After getting married and raising children, she decided to come back to school and pursue her education and volleyball career. We couldn't be happier for her. We're thrilled for her success and inspired by her balance between family, academics, and volleyball."
