David Sanchez Hired As New Head Cross Country Coach
David Sanchez has been named the COS Head Cross Country Coach replacing David Bronzan who retired after 32 years as head coach. "We are excited to have David Sanchez be our distance coach here at COS," said COS Athletic Director Brent Davis. "Coach Sanchez has a passion for developing student-athletes, experience, and drive. We are thrilled to have Coach Sanchez on board."
Coach Sanchez is a graduate of Farmersville High where he was a standout runner. After Farmersville, David attended COS and ran two years of Cross Country and Track and Field. "We had great teams while I was at COS and I was able to become a better student and a better runner. I want all of my student-athletes at COS to have that same opportunity," said Sanchez. Sanchez finished second in the state in the 1500m, 3rd in the 5k, and was the individual state champion in the 10k while at COS.
Sanchez was able to earn a scholarship after COS to run cross-country and track at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. At Adams State, he was a part of the 2012 Division II national championship team his senior year while he finished 12th out of 275 runners in the national championship race. The following year, David ran professionally before getting into coaching.
"I have had the desire to coach for a long time. I was fortunate enough to work under two hall-of-fame coaches in Damon Martin at Adams State and David Bronzan at COS," said Sanchez. Coach Sanchez worked two seasons as an assistant coach at Adams State before returning home to the central valley and helping his former coach David Bronzan in 2015 where he has been an assistant until being elevated to being the head coach.
When asked what his immediate plans are Sanchez replied, "I am excited to continue to build our program here at COS. We are going to do it with student-athletes from our area. I plan to build them up as students and as athletes. I want our student-athletes to have a great overall experience at COS."
