Loftin wins season-opening race for Giants' men

Evan Loftin (El Diamante High) raced to a 14-second victory in College of the Sequoias' season opening cross country meet March 12 at the COS Farm in Tulare.

Loftin won the nine-runner, four-mile men's race in 20:59.7. Teammate Lionel Aguayo (Lindsay) was second in 21:13.7.

The Giants' Cristobal Vasquez (Lindsay) was fifth in 22:03.5, Matthew Jarrett (Reedley) was sixth in 22:10.6 and Juan Santacruz (El Diamante) was seventh in 22:33.0.

In the eight-participant, five-kilometer women's race, Sequoias' lone runner, Ximena Ramos (Reedley) was second in 20:24.9.

Cuesta's Julia Voss won the women's race in 20:16.8.

Next up for the Giants is a race March 26 against Cuesta and Allan Hancock in San Luis Obispo.
