COS Men Win CVC Title, Women Second
The COS Men's Cross Country team won the Central Valley Conference Championship by one point over Clovis on Wedensday October 26th. The men's team was lead by Juan Santacruz, who finished second overall in the race. Fernando Hernandez was right behind him finishing third. Other standout runners were Anthony Illan (6th), Adam Aguilera (7th), Justin Smith (9th), and Misael Lopez who finished 11th. "It was a great team effort. I'm really proud of the grit they showed down the stretch. Adam (Aguilera) edged out an opponent by three tenths of a second. We really needed that poin," said COS Head Coach David Sanchez.
The COS women's team finished second behind Clovis Community College with Liliana Salado taking home the first place individual trophy by finishing over seven seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Sherlyn Hernandez, Mariah Fuentes, Anahi Loza, and Andrea Hernandez finished ninth through twelveth respectively for the Giants to capture second place overall. "I am proud of them," said Coach Sanchez. "They have worked hard all season and are a pleasure to be around. I am happy with their performance."
Both the COS men's and women's cross country teams next compete in the Nor Cal Finals hosted by College of the Redwoods on November 4th.
