Giant Racers Prepare for Conference Meet
Racing in the Division I race at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, Alyssa Block showed why she will be a strong contender for the individual title at the California Community College State Championships. She was the only community college athlete in the 6K race and placed an outstanding 18th among the 147 finishers that made up 21 complete Division I teams. Her time at the 5K mark, the traditional community college racing distance, was a lifetime best by over 30 seconds and she continued on for another kilometer at the same pace to finish in 20:58 for the 6K distance. Coach David Bronzan said after the race, "She has an amazing work ethic and it pays off – she continues to race faster and faster."
On the same day, at the Mt SAC Invitational in Walnut, the team recorded several strong performances. The women were led by Jewel Jasso who placed 5th out of 125 finishers in a time of 19:00.5. De'vyd Lawson led the Men's team by placing 8th out of 180 finishers with a time of 21:33.6 on the hilly 4-mile course. The Men's and Women's teams appear to have strong chances to win the Conference titles. The next race will be the Conference Championships on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 24, at Woodward Park, Fresno.
