
COS Comes Up Short Against Chabot
Giants football hosted the Chabot College Gladiators in the Giants home opener over the weekend on Saturday, September 8th. Chabot came out with the win by a final score of 34-20.
Giants Quarterback Ryan Johnson (Hanford) threw for 198 yards with 2 touchdown passes including a 72-yard touchdown pass to receiver Mitreon Brumfield. Receiver Blake Wells (Buchannan) also hauled in a touchdown pass for 40 yards. Running back Andrew Azua (Sanger) led the Giants ground attack with 12 carries for 86 yards, including a long of 56 yards. Defensive-lineman Markeese Jones led the defense with 9 tackles on the day. Defensive-back Bobby Peele (Edison) was all over the field as he had a big game on defense as he picked off the Gladiators quarterback twice. Peele also had a forced a fumble and recovered it for 21 yards.
COS had a drive late in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie the game before Chabot was able to stop them at the Chabot thirty-seven yard line. Chabot went on to score in the final two minutes of the game to make the spread two touchdowns.
For the Gladiators, Quarterback Chayce Akaka threw for 348 yards including 4 touchdowns as he led the Gladiators offense to the victory. The Chabot receivers had big games as Traveon Auzenne had 8 catches for 160 yards with 2 touchdown receptions and Da'Juan Johnson, who hauled in 13 catches for 148 yards with 2 touchdown passes as well.
The Gladiators moved to 2-0 on the season as the Giants fell to 0-2. The Giants will look to get their first win of the season as they host the College of Siskiyous Eagles on Saturday, September 15th at 11:00 a.m at the Mineral King Bowl.
