COS Football Opens on September 7
College of the Sequoias will open its 2024 football schedule at home, hosting American River College of Sacramento, September 7 at 11 a.m. at the on-campus Sequoias Stadium.
The Giants have drawn a difficult assignment for their season opener, as American River was 10-2 last season, won the NorCal Conference championship for the second year in a row, and played in the Northern California championship game.
It will be the first time the Giants and Beavers have played since 2013, and ARC is one of seven COS opponents who played in a post-season game last year.
Sequoias' first road game will be September 14 at perennial NorCal power City College of San Francisco, 9-2 last season.
The Giants will also have non-conference games against San Joaquin Delta (3-7 last year), Butte (9-2) and Feather River (3-7).
Valley Conference play will begin October 19 when COS hosts Sacramento City College (4-6).
A highlight of the conference schedule includes home games against valley rivals Reedley and Fresno City Colleges.
The Valley Conference had a banner year in 2023 as five of its six teams advanced to a post-season bowl game.
Sequoias was 6-5 a year ago and defeated Sierra 31-28 in the Golden State Bowl. It was the fourth year in a row a COS team advanced to the post-season (not counting the 2020 Covid year in which only two games were played).
The Giants will host home games in Sequoias Stadium, the new 3,000-seat on- campus stadium that serves as home for Giants football and soccer.
