
Sophomore day success for the Giants
Giants dominate in final home games on Sophomore day

The Giants played their final two homes games of the regular season versus WH Coalinga on Friday afternoon and celebrated the Sophomores who put in countless hours of time in the past two years into the softball program.
Players recognized are, Katie Simas (Riverdale), Sarai Ozuna (Cesar Chavez), Emily Ibarra (Redwood), Jacquelyn Esquer (Lemoore), Jazmin Torres (Shafter), Janette Ochoa (Redwood), Nataly Espinoza (Shafter), Madisen Shimmon (Hanford West), Mandy Pimentel (Riverdale), and Shalom Sanchez (Tulare Union), all made their mark in the Giants success.
Game one started off strong with the Giants scoring three runs in the first inning. Madisen Shimmon and Emily Ibarra both had a hit and scored twice, while Nataly Espinoza had three hits and batted in two runners. Bailee Bustos (Mission Oak) had three hits and struck out ten batters as the Giants completed the shut out in the 7-0 game one victory.
The hot bats continued in game two, with Shalom Sanchez' two run homerun in the first inning. Madisen Shimmon, Isela Villarreal (Dinuba), Emily Ibarra, Nataly Espinoza, Mandy Pimentel, Sarai Ozuna and Janette Ochoa, all combined for the Giants 15 hits in the contest. Bailee Bustos controlled the game again with five strike outs, Katie Simas came in to close the game out which completed the 16-0 victory.
"We are extremely proud of these ladies" said Head Coach Cori Janelli, as flowers and pictures were given to the Sophomores before the action began.
The Giants will be on the road thursday as they face WH Coalinga at 2:00pm and close out the week with a 12:00 and 2:00pm double header on friday at Bakersfield College.
