
#6 COS Sweeps Merced to Extend Conference Win Streak
Visalia, CA – The No. 6 College of the Sequoias softball team (23-8, 7-1 CVC) continued its fantastic stretch in Central Valley Conference play with a doubleheader sweep over Merced College on Tuesday, winning game one 5-1 and taking game two 9-1 in six innings.
Game 1: Sequoias 5, Merced 1
The Giants got off to a strong start with two runs in the first inning, as Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS) drove in both runs on a single that led to a Merced throwing error. The Giants added runs in the third and fourth on a sacrifice fly by Grace Chojnacki (Mission Oak HS) and an RBI single from Taylor Hastin (Tulare Union HS) .
Chojnacki also started in the circle and threw four shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Hastin took over in relief, pitching the final three innings to earn the save.
Isabella Ortega (Dinuba HS) finished 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Santos added two hits and two RBIs.
Game 2: Sequoias 9, Merced 1 (6 innings)
College of the Sequoias carried its momentum into the second game, using a five-run fifth inning to pull away from the Blue Devils.
Taylor Hastin (Tulare Union HS) had a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with a home run (6th on the season) and three RBIs while earning the win in the circle with five strong innings pitched.
Nayzeth Gonzalez (Hanford HS) went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Emilee Santos (Corcoran HS) continued her strong day with a 3-for-4 effort and two stolen bases.
COS pounded out 13 hits in the game, with eight different players collecting at least one hit.

The Giants returns to action Thursday, March 27, when they travel to face Fresno City College at 2:00 PM in a key Central Valley Conference matchup. The Giants will then head to Reedley College on Tuesday, April 1, for a conference doubleheader at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
