College of the Sequoias Sets School Records & Impressive Times at Hawk Invite
LIVERMORE, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias swim teams closed out March with an exciting performance at the 2025 Hawk Invite, held March 28–29 at Las Positas College. Competing against a deep field of Northern California programs, the Giants delivered multiple top-10 finishes, personal bests, and two new school records, further solidifying their form ahead of championship season.
Women's Highlights
The COS women opened the meet strong, with the 200 Medley Relay team of Sierra Hodson (Tulare Western HS), Savannah Gates (Heartland Charter), Azulema Ayon (Exeter HS), and Kenzie Hyder (Porterville HS) placing 4th in the A final with a time of 2:03.11.
Ayon headlined the weekend by breaking her own school record in the 100 Butterfly, finishing in 1:02.79 to place 6th and setting a new program best. She also placed 4th in the 50 Fly (27.92) and 7th in the 50 Free (26.15).
Hyder continued to shine in freestyle, earning 2nd in the 200 Free (2:04.23) and 7th in the 100 Fly (1:05.53).
In the backstroke events, Gates placed 14th in the 100 Back (1:12.40), while Curtis (Dinuba HS) and Hodson finished among the top 20. In the 200 Free, Lauren Pelayo (El Diamante HS) and Myranda Rodriguez (Mt. Whitney HS) contributed points for COS, with Autumn Gibson (Lemoore HS) also putting up a strong swim.
Men's Highlights
The COS men's 200 Medley Relay A team — comprised of Vincente Sanchez (Golden West HS), Josh Mitchell (Redwood HS), Trent Regier (Redwood HS), and Brendan Meyer (Lemoore HS) — took 4th place with a time of 1:41.97, edging out De Anza College for a top-five spot.
Trent Regier shattered the school record in the 50 Fly, finishing 2nd overall with a blistering time of 24.09, breaking the previous record by a full tenth of a second.
Brendan Meyer turned in another solid meet, placing 5th in the 200 Free (1:50.94). Jared Ojeda (Monache HS) placed 9th in the 100 Back (1:01.04).
In the 400 IM, Quinn Rea (Mt. Whitney HS) placed 8th (4:55.73), while teammates Jack LoBue (Monache HS) and Chandler Bruton (El Diamante HS) also posted strong results in the 200 Free. Isaac Maillard (Mt. Whitney HS) competed in both butterfly and IM events.
On Deck for the Giants
College of the Sequoias will now shift focus to the championship portion of the season, beginning with the NorCal Diving Qualifier and Conference Championships on Saturday, April 12 at Santa Rosa Junior College.
The following week, COS heads to Clovis Community College for the Central Valley Conference Swimming Championships, a four-day event from Thursday, April 17 to Sunday, April 20, where the Giants will look to cap off their season with team titles and postseason qualifiers.
