Former COS Giant, Quincy Hall, Punches Ticket to Paris on USA Olympic Team
Quincy Hall wins 400 meter race at U.S Olympic Team Trials to earn spot on Team USA Track & Field Team.
Former COS Giant, Quincy Hall, pulled away on the home stretch of the Men's 400 meter race to win the USA Olympic Trials to solidify his place on the USA Olympic Track and Field Team which heads to Paris next month.
Hall, who won three state titles each year for COS in 2017 and 2018 (400 meters, 400 hurdles, and the 4 x 400 relay) ran a personal best on Monday night in Eugene, Oregon by running a 44.17 and is the fastest time by any American this year. When asked Tuesday morning about the final race, Hall responded, "I just wanted to stay in striking distance of the leader going into the last turn. Then Coach Allen and I have a saying…."get home" which means I need to leave every bit of energy I have on the track as I cross that finish line. I was able to pull ahead and finish first. I couldn't be more thrilled."
Former COS Head Track and Field Coach, Curtis Allen, recruited Hall to COS during the 16-17 school year, and has been Hall's personal coach for the past year. When asked about the lead up to the Olympic Trials, Allen said, "We just did what we could to make sure Quincy was mentally right, we walked the track before the meet, and we had a great three weeks of training leading up to the trials. Quincy has great confidence and he ran a smart race in the finals. I can't be happier for him that he made team USA."
Current COS Head Track and Field Coach, Kenny Jackson, coach Hall during the 2018 season gave his thoughts on Monday's race. "Quincy was able to show who he was. He really finished tough on the last 100 meters of the race to come behind for the win. I can't wait to watch him in Paris running for the USA team."
When asked about what immediately next, Hall responded, "I have a lot to do today. I need to do all of my paperwork for Team USA, I have a media session, and all of my processing paperwork to go to on the trip. After that, I will get ready for Paris."
Hall will run individually in the 400 meters as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay for team USA starting on Sunday August 4th.
