
Eight Giants Earn CVC Honors; Medina and Trigueiro Named Co-MVPs
Visalia, CA – The College of the Sequoias women's basketball team finished the Central Valley Conference (CVC) season with a perfect 28-0 record and a 12-0 mark in conference play, securing another CVC championship. The Giants earned multiple All-Conference accolades, including Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach Tyler Newton and Co-MVP awards for Jocelyn Medina (Pierce HS) and Morgan Trigueiro (Caruthers HS). Medina was also named Northern California Player of the Year, while Trigueiro earned First Team All-State honors and Campbell Vieg (Chico HS) was selected to the All-State Second Team. Eight players received CVC honors, highlighting the depth and balance that made Sequoias the top team in Northern California.
Jocelyn Medina established herself as one of the premier players in the state, earning CVC Co-MVP, First Team All-State, and First Team All-Conference honors, along with the prestigious Northern California Player of the Year award. She ranked second in the conference in scoring with 22.8 points per game, shooting an impressive 57.8% from the field, which was first in the CVC. She was also the top three-point shooter in the conference, leading in three-point percentage (44.3%) while making over 2 threes per game. Medina was more than just a scorer, contributing 9.8 rebounds per game (fourth in CVC) and showcasing her versatility with 3.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game (third in CVC in both categories). She also made a significant impact on the offensive glass, ranking fourth in the conference in offensive rebounds with 3.5 per game, further demonstrating her ability to create second-chance opportunities.
Morgan Trigueiro was the league's leading scorer, earning CVC Co-MVP, First Team All-State, and First Team All-Conference honors after averaging 24.1 points per game, which was first in the CVC. She was an elite shooter, hitting 39.8% of her three-pointers (second in the CVC) while making 3.8 threes per game (first in the CVC). She also contributed across the board, averaging 3.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, making her a complete two-way player.
Campbell Vieg earned Second Team All-State and First Team All-Conference honors after establishing herself as a key playmaker in the Giants' backcourt. She was a steady contributor, providing a mix of scoring, defensive toughness, and leadership throughout the season. She averaged 17.6 points per game while shooting an impressive 60.2% from the field. She also contributed 5.4 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 3.3 steals per game, making her one of the top guards in the CVC. Her ability to impact the game in multiple ways made her one of the most valuable and consistent performers in the conference.
Kaitlin Giacone (Eureka HS) was named First Team All-Conference after an outstanding freshman season. She shot 65.2% from the field, the highest in the conference, while averaging 9.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game (11th in CVC). She was also one of the top offensive rebounders in the conference, ranking sixth with 3.0 offensive rebounds per game. Her efficiency inside helped the Giants' offensive attack as she became a dominant presence in the paint.
Lucia Ricci (Seattle) earned Second Team All-Conference honors, proving to be a versatile guard for Sequoias. She was a reliable playmaker, averaging 3.5 assists per game (eighth in CVC) while also contributing 7.1 rebounds per contest (ninth in CVC). She was also an outstanding defender, ranking fourth in steals per game (2.5 SPG).
Anisa Torres (Caruthers HS) was named Second Team All-Conference after providing a steady scoring presence off the bench. She averaged 6.5 points per game, while also contributing defensively with 1.5 steals per game. Her ability to make plays made her a key rotational piece for the Giants.
Olivia Gill (Pioneer HS) earned Second Team All-Conference honors, proving to be a standout freshman for the Giants. She shot 52.9% from the field, ranking fourth most efficient in the conference, while averaging 7.2 points per game. She also provided rebounding support, pulling down 4.0 rebounds per game.
Teresa Sandoval (Hanford West HS) rounded out the Giants' honorees with an Honorable Mention selection. She provided strong minutes off the bench, averaging 2.3 points and 1.6 rebounds per game while shooting 50.0% from the field.
With the regular season now behind them, COS shifts its focus to the 2025 California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Northern California Regionals, where they enter as the No. 1 overall seed. The Giants will open their playoff campaign on Saturday, March 1, hosting the winner of No. 16 Cabrillo vs. No. 17 Modesto.
Head Coach Tyler Newton, who was named CVC Coach of the Year, emphasized his team's preparation and mindset heading into the postseason. "We've played at a high level all season," Newton said. "The key is staying locked in, playing our style, and taking care of business one game at a time."
Newton stressed the importance of home-court advantage in the playoffs. "We've earned the right to play in front of our home crowd, and that's something we don't take for granted," he said. "The energy in our gym has been incredible all year, and we're excited to have our fans behind us as we compete to make it to another Elite Eight."
