
Giants Fall to Fresno in Straight Sets
VISALIA, CA – The College of the Sequoias women's volleyball team faced Fresno on Friday night, falling in straight sets (14-25, 20-25, 16-25). Despite moments of strong play, the Giants were unable to overcome Fresno's consistent attack, dropping their home contest.
COS struggled to gain momentum early, as Fresno's offense came out strong, hitting .370 in the opening set. The Giants saw improvement in the second set as they kept the score close, but Fresno's balanced attack and timely blocking proved to be too much.
Vianka Martinez (Golden West HS) led Sequoias with 9 kills and Olivia Samaniego (McFarland HS) added 8 kills on .333 hitting. Trinity Tavita was able to contribute 6 kills on .333 hitting, along with 2 blocks. Julieanne Gerbrandt (Dinuba HS) chipped in with 11 assists and a service ace, while Allison Wood (Immanuel HS) and Kassandra Perez-Moran (El Diamante HS) anchored the defense with 13 and 7 digs, respectively.
Upcoming Matches
The Giants will look to bounce back as they prepare for their next match on Wednesday, October 16 when they travel to Taft College at 6 p.m. They will return home on Friday when they host Porterville at 6 p.m. at Porter Fieldhouse on the campus of College of the Sequoias.
