
Giants Sweep Lemoore, Celebrate Milestones for Wood and Martinez
VISALIA, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias volleyball team showcased their dominance in a straight-set victory over Lemoore on Wednesday night, winning 25-18, 25-18, 25-16. The Giants' strong performance was highlighted by significant milestones for Allison Wood (Immanuel HS) and Vianka Martinez (Golden West HS), as the Giants continues its impressive season.
Wood, the Giants' defensive anchor, reached her 500th dig of the season in the second set, finishing the match with 9 digs. This achievement brings her season total to 504, maintaining her position as the state leader in digs. Her efforts on the back row have been pivotal for Sequoias all season, and her milestone was met with applause from her teammates and fans.
On the offensive end, Martinez continued her scoring spree, racking up 17 kills. This performance pushed her season total to 418 kills, moving her up to third in the state rankings. Martinez's power at the net played a key role in the Giants' ability to keep Lemoore's defense on their heels throughout the match.
Supporting Martinez, Olivia Samaniego (McFarland HS) had an efficient night with 13 kills on .458 hitting, while Trinity Tavita contributed 7 kills and an ace. Setter Kassandra Perez-Moran (El Diamante HS) orchestrated the offense with 21 assists, and Julieanne Gerbrandt (Dinuba HS) added 18 assists and 6 digs.
The Giants' controlled play and defensive discipline allowed them to hold of Lemoore, as COS extended its home win streak with a confident performance. The team looks forward to building on this momentum as they approach the final stretch of the season.
