
Giants place 13th at Highlander Invitational
Competing against a field comprised mostly of runners from four-year universities, COS' Ismael Ramirez (Redwood) finished 41st overall in the 234-runner Highlander Invitational on Oct. 19 in Riverside.
Ramirez crossed the finish line in the five-mile race - a mile longer than normal junior college events - in 25:18 to help the Giants' men's team place 13th out of 21 complete teams with 386 points.
Oscar Perez (Dinuba) was COS' second-best finisher, placing 63rd in 25:45. The Giants also had Evan Loftin (El Diamante) place 125th in 26:52, Christian Gonzales (Corcoran) place 127th in 26:57, Cristobal Vasquez (Lindsay) place 156th in 27:26, Zackary Woods (Frontier-Bakersfield) place 167th in 27:46 and Victor Cisneros (Lindsay) place 168th in 27:46.
For COS' women, Courtney Santos (Hanford West) was 173rd in 25:58 and Sky Garcia (Mt. Whitney) was 192nd in 26:57.
The Giants now turn their attention to preparing for the Central Valley Conference Championships on Oct. 29 at Fresno's Woodward Park.
The Northern California Championships are set for Nov. 8 at Toro Park in Salinas, while the California Community College Championships are Nov. 23rd at Woodward Park.
