Giants season ends in game two defeat
The College of the Sequoias baseball team could not hang on in game two of the best-of-three NorCal Super Regional, losing 3-2 to No. 4 Sacramento City on Saturday.
With the loss, the No. 8 Giants season is over at 30-15.
Sacramento City got on the board first in the top of the third inning.
Shaq Robinson's single up the middle, scored Anthony Clyma and Joe McNamara, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Sequoias countered back with a run of their own, in the bottom half of the frame. Wyatt Tilley's triple to right center, scored Emilio Navarro, setting the Giants back one run.
COS tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth with the help of Tilley. The freshman from Golden West singled to left center, scoring Gabe Corona.
The Panthers tagged COS pitcher Troy Stainbrook for one run, and that was the go-ahead game winner.
Jake Guenther's single to second base, brought home Joe McNamara for the 3-2 Sacramento City lead.
After Isaiah Nunez's eight inning performance, Nick Mears entered the game in the bottom of the ninth for the Panthers.
Mears shut down the Giants in their last ups, for his sixth save of the season.
