Giants Secure 4-0 Shutout Over East Los Angeles behind Espinoza's 2 Goals
Visalia, CA – The College of the Sequoias men's soccer team earned an impressive 4-0 victory over East Los Angeles College on Friday afternoon at Sequoias Stadium. Irvin Espinoza (Farmersville HS) led the way with two goals, while Jose Fabian Sandoval (Tulare Union HS) and Cesar Velasquez (McFarland HS) each added a goal and assist.
The Giants (5-1-4) took control early, with Espinoza scoring in the 8th minute off a pass from Sandoval. Velasquez doubled the lead in the 38th minute, assisted by Espinoza, as Sequoias entered halftime up 2-0.
"We came out with great intensity from the start and kept pushing," said Head Coach Abraham Campos. "The team's energy and execution were spot-on today."
In the second half, the Giants continued to press, with Sandoval finding the net in the 73rd minute, assisted by Ricardo Lemus-Frausto (Golden West HS). Espinoza secured his second goal just two minutes later, with Johnathan Ibarra (Porterville HS) providing the assist.
Defensively, Sequoias was solid, holding East Los Angeles without a shot on target, while goalkeeper Zachary Ramirez (Orange Cove HS) recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season.
"It was a complete performance from everyone, both offensively and defensively," Campos added. "We executed our game plan perfectly."
COS will look to build on this performance as they host Bakersfield on Tuesday, October 1. It is a doubleheader as the women's will host Lemoore at 12 p.m. and the men's host Bakersfield at 2 p.m. They will also host Merced for their home conference opener, Friday, October 4 at 3 p.m.
