Giants Earn 1-1 Draw Against Fresno City
Visalia, CA - College of the Sequoias Men's Soccer (5-3-6, 0-2-1) battled to a 1-1 draw with Fresno City College (5-3-4, 1-0-2) in a Central Valley Conference (CVC) match on Friday, October 11. After taking a first-half lead, the Giants conceded a second-half penalty that ultimately resulted in a share of the points.
How It Happened
The Giants struck first, taking the lead in the 31st minute when Jairo Medina (Dinuba HS) connected on a pass from Johnathan Ibarra (Porterville HS) to make it 1-0. Medina's finish gave the Giants the lead heading into half.
Fresno responded after the break, leveling the score in the 57th minute. Santana Mercado converted a penalty kick, awarded after a foul in the box, bringing the match to 1-1. Despite both teams having chances late, neither side was able to break the deadlock.
"We played a solid first half, but we need to finish games better," said head coach Abraham Campos. "Giving away a penalty like that was tough, but I'm proud of the effort and resilience the team showed in the closing minutes. We'll learn from this and come back stronger."
