#8 COS Preparing for CVC Tournament
In the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northern California Ranking, that was released on March 8, 2024, COS was ranked #8.
The Giants took on Porterville College in a doubleheader and defeated the Pirates 6-1 in the first match. Brooke Ray (Sierra Pacific HS) and Herlinda Barrios (Exeter HS) as they won 8-1 in #2 doubles. Cailyn Jensen (Redwood HS) won 8-0 in #5 singles and Hannah Salazar (Tulare Western HS) won 8-1 in #6 singles. In the second match against Porterville College, the Giants won 7-0. Tillie Wendt (Exeter HS) and Herlinda Barrios performed admirably as they won 8-1 in #2 doubles. Summer Herrera won in #1 singles with a score of 8-0, Tillie Wendt won 8-0 in #3 singles, and Hannah Salazar won in #6 singles by going 8-0.
In their next match, the Giants took on Reedley College and won 9-0. In doubles, all 3 duos won 8-0 with Summer Herrera (Redwood HS) & Brooke Ray in #1 doubles, Tillie Wendt & Herlinda Barrios in #2 doubles, and Cailyn Jensen & Hannah Salazar in #3 doubles. 3 of the single matches won in straight sets with Summer Herrera in #1 singles, Tillie Wendt in #2 singles, and Cailyn Jensen in #3 singles.
The Giants traveled to take on #4 ranked Fresno City and fell short 5-4. In their doubles win, Tillie Wendt and Cailyn Jensen won 8-6 in #3 doubles. Wendt also performed well in #3 singles as she won in straight sets (7-5, 6-1) and Jensen won in straight sets in #4 singles (6-2, 7-5). The Giants gained their fourth point in #6 singles as Hannah Salazar won (2-6, 7-5, 7-5).
COS traveled to take on Modesto College last week and lost 6-3. The Giants gained their 3 points in singles play as Summer Herrera won in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) in #1 singles, Brooke Ray won in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) in #2 singles, and Tillie Wendt won 6-2, 6-0 in #3 singles.
COS will now enter the Central Valley Conference (CVC) Tournament with a 9-4 (7-2) record. The CVC Tournament will start on Monday, April 1 at Fresno City College with a start time of 8:30 am.
