February 20 - Baseball Update
The Giants enter the week 5-4 and face Allan Hancock and Folsom Lake.
The Giants fell short in the first game of the week against Allan Hancock 13-1. Two of the bright spots of the team's offense included Zach Milhous (Monache HS) and Noe Salazar (Kerman HS). Milhous went 2-for-4 and Salazar went 2-for-3 and scored one run.
The Giants lost their first game of their 2 games series versus Folsom Lake 10-9. It was a high powered offensive game on both sides. COS took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning as Isaiah Munoz (Clovis North HS) had a 2-run single. COS then entered the bottom of the 4th with a 5-2 deficit. They scored two runs this inning with Diego Sanchez' (Bakersfield Christian HS) groundout RBI and Noe Salazar's RBI single; they entered the 5th down 5-4. The Giants then entered the 7th down 10-6. Munoz, Ortega, and Coronado all scored on wild pitches and fell short on the comeback as they lost 10-9.
The Giants looked to bounce back for their series finale as Benjamin Rodriguez's (Tulare Western HS)early 2-R HR set the tone for the game. Although facing adversity as Folsom Lake extended their lead, the Giants continued to rally back. Rodriguez's RBI triple and Jesse Ortega's (Dinuba HS) timely RBI single kept them within striking distance. They continued to fight back as Noe Salazar scores on an error and Isaiah Munoz hitting a 2-R double to narrow the gap to 5-4. The Giants took control of the game by tying it and taking the lead in the late innings. This was started by Alex Lopez's (Golden West HS) RBI single and contributions from Rodriguez and Ortega's RBI singles to put them on top 10-8. Javier Altamirano (Mt Whitney HS) was able to secure the win with his 2 inning outing allowing no hits and no runs.
The Giants now enter conference play as the Giants hit the road to play Fresno City on Tuesday, February 20, before returning home on Thursday, February 22, at 2 pm.
