Giants begin CVC Play
The Giants started Central Valley Conference (CVC) play with 2 series against Fresno City and Porterville College.
COS lost the first series against Fresno City. In Game 1, Benjamin Rodriguez (Tulare Western HS) and Jesse Ortega (Dinuba HS) had a great day at the plate. They both went 2-for-3 with a stolen base each. AJ Bekedam (Sierra Pacific HS) also had a great day on the mound as he came in relief and only allowed 1 hit and no runs in 3 innings. In Game 2, the Giants came out swinging as they Isaiah Munoz (Clovis North HS) had a RBI single and Diego Sanchez (Bakersfield Christian HS) had a 2-R single in the first inning. Javier Altamirano (Mt. Whitney HS) had a great relief outing as he allowed no hits or runs in 2.2 innings pitched. In Game 3 of the series, the standouts at the plate included Noe Salazar (Kerman HS) , Isaiah Munoz, and Nick Senn (El Diamante HS). Salazar contributed by going 3-for-6 including 2 RBIs, Munoz went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs including an RBI double, and Senn came in to pinch hit and added a solo HR.
In the Porterville series, the Giants went 2-0, with one game being suspended due to the weather conditions. In the first game of the series, the Giants won 18-6. Daniel Coronado (El Diamante HS), Jesse Ortega, and Isaiah Munoz had huge performances at the plate. Coronado with 2-for-5 with a RBI, Ortega provided 4-for-6 with 3 RBIs and a double, and Munoz went 4-for-6 with 2 doubles and a 3-R HR. The winning pitcher was Keine Prendez (Dinuba HS) as he allowed 4 hits and 1 run, with 6 strikeouts over 5 innings. In Game 2 they Giants got a 9-1 win as Daniel Coronado, Benjamin Rodriuez, and Jesse Ortega helped provide the offense. Coronado went 3-for-4, Rodriguez went 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs, and Ortega added in a double and 3 RBIs. Alex Hernandez (Redwood HS) was the winning pitcher in this game as he only allowed 1 hit with 4 strikeouts in 6 innings. The series finale was suspended in the bottom of the 8th inning when the rain began again. The game will continue on Friday, April 26 when the Giants travel to Porterville.
COS will continue CVC play this week and next as they start the series against West Hills Coalinga and Taft College. It will begin this Tuesday at West Hills Coalinga starting at 2 pm.
