COS Hosts Porterville in Men's Hoops Action
The COS men's and women's basketball programs will host a doubleheader this Wednesday night. The men will play first at 5pm versus Porterville College with the women playing after at 7pm against Fresno City College.
For the men's game both teams come in with three loses in conference play. COS sits at 8-3 while Porterville comes in at 7-3. "This is a big game for both of us with potential playoff implications on the line" said COS head coach Rusty Smith. "Porterville is a good team and is playing well."
COS is coming off of a 80-56 Monday victory at Reedley College. Tristan Forsyth and Keshawn Gibbs scored 17 points each while Elihu Cobb contributed with 11.
The COS women's basketball team is coming off of a win versus Taft College last Saturday where Janelle Sumilong made her return to the Giants lineup after being out two weeks with a deep bruise. Sumilong scored 10 points in just over eight minutes of action. "It was great to get her out on the court. We need her to get back into the swing of things as we come down the stretch of our season" said COS Women's Basketball Coach Ray Alvarado.
The COS women's basketball team sits at 21-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play, one game behind 7-0 Merced College. COS is currently ranked #5 in the state and #3 in Northern California.
The Fresno City College women's basketball team comes into the game 15-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play. COS won the first matchup in Fresno 89-70. "It's a rivalry game. You never know what is going to happen. We just need to be ready to play hard and let the chips fall where they may" said Alvarado.
Admission is only $5 which includes entry to both games.
