#14 Giants Extends Winning Streak to 9 Games
The Giants continue Central Valley Conference (CVC) play as they traveled to the Merced Blue Devils for a doubleheader. In the first game, COS went down early as the Blue Devils score 1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The score stayed 1-0 until the 5th inning, when Susie Ortega (Mission Oak HS) reached base on an error and Kristina Nunes (Riverdale HS) scored. The Giants followed that with a sacrifice fly from Emily Ibarra (Redwood HS). Bailee Bustos (Mission Oak HS) finished strong as she pitched 7 innings and only allowed 5 hits, 1 run, and had 10 strikeouts.
In the second game, it was another close game as the game was scoreless until the 5th inning. Islea Villarreal (Dinuba HS) and Anela Hernandez (Waialua, HI) both had a RBI single. Bailee Bustos pitched a shutout in the second game as she allowed 3 hits and struck out 8 batters.
In the most recent California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) poll that came out on March 20th, COS was ranked 14th in the state and 7th in the North. The Giants will open up the month of April hosting Fresno City on Thursday, April 4th at 2 pm.
