Central Valley Conference Honors MVP Ibarra and Pitcher of the Year Bustos
As the Central Valley Conference (CVC) season concluded, College of the Sequoias was awarded numerous individual achievements. Sophomore Bailee Bustos once again earned Pitcher of the Year honors, showcasing her dominance on the mound with conference-leading stats in wins (17), strikeouts (171), and second in ERA (1.16). Emily Ibarra also stood out, earning the title of Central Valley Conference Player of the Year. Her outstanding performance included leading the conference in hits (60), doubles (16), and batting average (.469), while also ranking fifth in RBIs (29).
The Giants' dominance was further highlighted with Freshman Grace Chojnacki and Sophomore Isela Villarreal earning spots on the All-Central Valley Conference 1st Team. Chojnacki's impressive performance on the mound included ranking third in the conference in ERA (1.37), fifth in strikeouts (83), and fourth in wins (10). She also displayed prowess at the plate, batting .330 and contributing 29 RBIs. Meanwhile, Villarreal showcased her offensive skills, ranking fourth in the conference in hits (43) and batting average (.384). Additionally, her strong fielding earned her the tenth spot in fielding percentage (.981).
Furthermore, Freshman Megan Melson and Sophomore Eliza Gamez earned spots on the All-CVC 2nd Team. Anela Hernandez, Kristina Nunes, and Marissa Vasquez also received Honorable Mentions, further showcasing the team's depth and versatility.
Melson had an impressive freshman campaign, boasting a .350 batting average and 21 hits. Gamez contributed this season with a .287 batting average and 16 RBIs. Hernandez, Nunes, and Vazquez also made valuable contributions at the plate, with batting averages of .311, .333, and .350 respectively.
